BUSINESS MIXER

April 1 Business Mixer

The American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan partnered with Grant Thornton on Friday, April 1, to host the monthly business mixer. The event was dedicated to the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Holis Guruh, a Grant Thornton partner, and to the opening of Grant Thornton, an audit and consulting valuation in Uzbekistan. The mixer was held in the Banquet Hall of Hotel Uzbekistan.

Donald Nicholson II, AmCham president, opened the event by welcoming the more-than 100 guests. He congratulated Holis Guruh with its 15 years of sustainable business development in Uzbekistan. On behalf of the international business society, Nicholson presented a certificate of appreciation and support to Nematulla Karmov, the general manager of Holis Guruh and a partner of Grant Thornton.

The evening continued with a media presentation on Grant Thornton activities and was then followed by an address from Gernot Hebestreit, the global leader for business development and client service partner at Grant Thornton.

Karimov offered his own remarks and invited all guests to enjoy the evening and share in the celebration of this new initiative.

Participants were treated to a wonderful night of food and drinks and a stunning entertainment program. Larisa Moskalyova, an honored artist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was one of the star performers for the evening.

Business Mixer on February 11, 2011

The British School of Tashkent, one of the newest members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan (AmCham), hosted the monthly business mixer on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011. Almost 80 people attended the mixer, including local business people, visiting guests and members of the diplomatic corps in Uzbekistan. The event was held in the school’s assembly hall.

Donald Nicolson II, president of AmCham, opened the mixer with welcoming remarks for the evening’s guests. Raymond Finch, headmaster at the British School, followed Nicolson’s comments by explaining more about the school, its students, the curriculum and other issues.

The British School of Tashkent opened in September 2010 and currently has groups for children ages 18 months through seven years, Finch said. In September 2011 the school plans to expand to include classes for Year 3 (ages seven and eight) and Year 4 (ages eight and nine).

“We are a British school with clear aims, a standardized curriculum [English National Curriculum], and high academic standards,” Finch said. “Though traditional and formal in style, we are also progressive, dynamic and have a modern approach to teaching and learning.

“We combine the rigors of classroom work with a welcoming and friendly learning environment,” he continued. “Children are encouraged to do their best at whatever they attempt and to achieve their full potential in all areas. Our staff set the very highest standards, not only academically but also in terms of behavior and social skills.”

Following Finch’s presentation, guests at the mixer enjoyed a full buffet of food prepared by the school chef. Teachers and other school personnel gladly gave tours of the school’s facilities to curious guests.
