Monthly Meeting on November 18, 2020 at 11:00

On November 18, 2020 the American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan (AmCham) organized a monthly online meeting with the representatives of Business Ombudsman (BO). The topic of the event was “System for Protecting the Rights of Entrepreneurs: Case of Uzbekistan”.

Hugo Minderhoud, President, AmCham Uzbekistan, was moderating the event. After his opening speech, Hugo gave the floor to Mr. Jamshid Urunov, Deputy Commissioner for Protection of Rights and Legitimate Interests of Entrepreneurs under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Mr. Jamshid was the special speaker-guest of the meeting.

Mr. Jamshid shared with AmCham members strategic actions of the 2017-2021.

The speaker also shared the main tasks of the BO:

  • Participation in the formation and implementation of state policy in the business development sphere.
  • Monitoring compliance with the rights and legitimate interests of entrepreneurs by state bodies.
  • Evaluation practical implementation of norms and requirements of legislation related to the guarantees of freedom of entrepreneurial activity.
  • Assessment of the effectiveness and impact of adopted regulatory acts and legislation in carrying out entrepreneurial activities.

BO is active in all regions of Uzbekistan, it has a right to appeal against acts of economic, administrative and civil courts that have come into legal force in cassation and supervisory procedure. As a result of legal measures taken by BO, the rights of entrepreneurs were protected. In addition, BO provides assistance to entrepreneurs in all the processes of launching imported technological equipment, so from January to October 598 entrepreneurs put into operation 1,213 technological equipment. Accordingly – 7,000 new jobs were created.

At the end of Mr. Jamshid’s presentation, he shared the Business Ombudsman’s plans for 2021. The meeting ended with a Q&A session, where the meeting guests communicated with Mr. Urunov.
