AUCC Holds Investment Summit in New York City

The American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC), together with the Ministry of Foreign Economic relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, hosted the U.S.-Uzbekistan Investment Summit 2009 on October 8, 2009, in New York City.  The event which was held at the Harvard Club of New York City was followed by a gala dinner honoring Elyor M. Ganiev, Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade for the Republic of Uzbekistan.

An Uzbek delegation lead by Minister Ganiev was in attendance. Commenting on the success of the summit, Minister Ganiev said, “Uzbekistan has shown the vast potential that exists across a wide-array of sectors. Foreign investors,” continued Minister Ganiev, “receive a favorable tax policy on corporate taxes and tax incentives and privileges including tax exemption on property, income and customs duties. Uzbekistan is open for business.”

“The Investment Summit presented a unique forum for potential investors to explore specific opportunities in Uzbekistan,” said Tim McGraw, Executive Vice President of NUKEM, Inc., AUCC President, and one of the featured speakers at the event. “The Uzbek government is highly motivated in its desire to attract direct foreign investment.”

Other speakers presented a wide range of topics from investment opportunities and the Navoi Free Industrial Economic Zone (FIEZ), to legal matters and the continuing prospects for growth.
